Student Spotlights

⭐️CREATING A CULTURE OF KINDNESS - Whole School or Classroom activity

When I was an elementary school principal, connection and kindness were the center of my practice and philosophy. It still is! I do miss the opportunity to do whole school activities to promote kindness and community, but hopefully, I can share them here, and you can do them in your school!

One whole school activity that I loved to do was the Student Spotlight.

At the start of the school year, every student completed a Student Spotlight form. Rather than focusing on favorite foods, movies, or colors, we focused on strengths, interests, character traits, abilities, and talents.

A few Student Spotlights were read daily on the announcements and then posted up on a bulletin board display. This activity is a great way to get to know each other and to showcase talents and interests. Plus, it lasts all year long!

Encourage staff to fill one out, too!

Find three different "Student Spotlight" templates in the Free Resources section of my website. If you use them, please snap a photo and share them with me. I'd love to see how you put it into action to create a culture of kindness in your classroom or school.
